Waffle House Corporate Hangar Development

This project consisted of a new corporate hangar development for Waffle House at PDK. Aulick Engineering provided all aspects of civil engineering design for the project site and hangar apron, including pavement, grading, drainage, erosion control, and utility design as well as the offload area for the Owner’s onsite fuel facility. Permitting for new City regulations of commercial and industrial developments was also provided. Of particular interest was a significant airspace analysis effort that included multiple meetings with the FAA to get the project approved. Construction administration services were provided during construction and included bi-weekly meetings, site visits, submittal reviews, and RFI responses.

One of our more recent projects was the Atlantic Aviation FBO Terminal Complex at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. We hired Aulick Engineering to provide airport and civil site design services for the 25-acre development; their scope encompassed nearly 15 acres of new pavement for taxilanes, aprons, and parking lots on the 25-acre site. Aulick was responsible for airport design, civil site design, stormwater management design, erosion control design, and city and county permitting coordination. Additionally, Aulick was retained to provide construction administration and limited construction inspection services.
Aulick Engineering impressed me through all phases of the project. As can be expected at a World War II-era site, several field issues were encountered during the construction phase of the project. Aulick staff members were extremely responsive when these issues arose and were able to be at the job site within minutes; their engineers were resourceful and quickly came up with innovative solutions to ensure that the construction schedule was not adversely impacted.
